Going back to when I first started fly fishing…
I loved being on the water and when I'd actually catch fish it was amazing!
But unfortunately, the "catching" part wasn't happening as often as I'd like.
Sure, I'd have lucky days...
But I never knew what I was doing differently that day to cause the fish to bite.
But it all changed one day when I paid for a coach to show me the way.
I’d been fishing the Guadalupe river for trout for the previous two weeks and couldn't get a single bite.
I’d done a decent amount of research, but the sheer amount of info online had my head spinning.
Will dry flies work?
Do I need to use a nymph setup?
Do I use a floating line?
Or a sinking line?
How long should my leader be?
My questions were endless.
I was in over my head and even though I was picking up more info and learning more each time, I would be lying if I said it wasn’t getting frustrating.
I knew I had to get some help, so that’s when I met my coach, Chris.
He’d guided in Colorado and Texas for the last 15 years and seemed to know just about everything about fly fishing.
I spent hundreds of dollars on that lesson, but honestly, it was completely worth it.
As soon as I hit the water that day, I caught my first trout and I knew I’d be chasing that feeling for the rest of my life.
